First of all, I want to make clear that this tool does not replace a flat iron, but it does save tons of time straightening the bulk of my hair. I still need my flat iron for touch-ups and sections of my hair that are short along my hairline, but that always goes really quick.

It took me about five minutes to review the instructions and figure out how this works, less than five minutes for the straightener to reach the desired temperature (410°F is what I used) while I brushed my hair, and about 5-10 minutes to straighten my hair. This tool is super easy to operate! I can run about twice as much hair through at once than what I can with my flat iron. And when I mindlessly touched my scalp with the brush, it didn’t hurt because there are longer bristles that don’t heat up, so my skin never touches the heating element. Also, my hair didn’t feel dry like it sometimes does when I go too hot or too slow with my flat iron, possibly because less hair is in direct contact with the heat.

If you consider the time saved by using this brush in addition to your flat iron, it’s well worth the price.

This is the third brand of heated ceramic hairbrushes that I have purchase and the fourth that I have tried on my hair (the fourth one belongs to my sister). I have really thick and wavy hair. One strand of my hair is the equivalent of two stands of everyone else’s hair (since I have yet to meet someone with hair thicker than mine).

My hair takes 1.5 hours to blow dry or about 1 hour to straighten with a flat iron if I want to wear it straight. I began buying these types of brushes in hopes that I could find one that left my hair straight in half that time. So far, none have left my hair as nicely straight as a flat iron straightner but the InStyler hair brush is by far the best one I’ve tried so far.

With the InStyler, I was able to get my hair done in 16.35 minutes (yes I timed it!) using larger chunks of hair to brush through. Usually, for my hair to look like this with the other heated brushes, I have to brush in small segments (like I do with a flat iron) which takes longer and defeats the purpose.

The thing to remember with these brushes is that you have to brush your hair in sections and (if you have think curly hair) you have to brush each section at least twice. Every brand that I have tried so far, works this way. I can’t just run it through my hair like a regular brush because it will only straighten the top part.

Compared to the other brands I have tried, I like this one the best because it heats up quickly and the temp remains consistent. With the other brands I have tried, the temperature drops and I have to constantly pause to adjust it. Also, the tips of the bristles are so much more sturdy on the InStyler than the other brushes. I actually feel comfortable running it through my hair thick hair without breaking off the tips.

The heat setting goes straight to 450 degrees, but it flashes a few times to give you enough time to lower it if you need it. The one thing I wish it had was a temperature lock so that I don’t have to worry about accidentally pressing a button. None of my other brushes have this feature either but the positioning of the buttons in the InStyler makes it more difficult for me to accidentally press the buttons anyway.

As someone who has tried several other of these brushes I highly recommend the instyler.

I have been straightening my hair with a flat iron for 15 years, so when a friend of mine got this, I really thought it was a hoax. I tried it on her hair, and it worked well. I finally broke down and bought one when it had a coupon on Amazon, and let’s just say I am very impressed. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much in terms of effectiveness or time-saving ability, but this tool has both.

Now, if you are looking for stick-straight hair or if you have really, really curly hair, I don’t know if this is the right tool. But I can straighten my nearly waist-length, wavy hair in under 10 minutes, where a flat iron would take me around 30 minutes. Now, I only pull out my flat iron to get the hairs around my face or just touch up little pieces if I need to.

It heats up really fast, and using it is just like brushing my hair. Super easy! Overall, this product is fast and effective, and I recommend it.

I won’t lie, this brush takes some getting used to. I’m sure it came with directions, but I’m not the type of person to read them, so I didn’t pay attention. It took a little trial and error to figure out the correct way to straighten my hair with this, but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty easy. And so far it seems to be slightly less damaging than using a traditional straightener. I will say though, I docked a star because it does kind of catch my hair a bit. I have pretty thin hair, and it just tends to get caught in between the bristles. I’m unsure so far if it’s better than using a regular straightener or not. The price is fair though, so I’d suggest buying it and giving it a try yourself. Based on the reviews, it seems this works better if you have thicker hair.
